I hope you aren’t tired of Dollar Store redo’s or Ikea because I’m totally obsessed right now!
This was the project I started at Jax’s Crafty Crafty Ladies Night- Mod Podge edition. My first attempt was an epic failure due to me being an impatient podger! So here is round #2!
**Don’t forget to scroll down to the bottom of the post for the credits. I got my inspiration from two other great projects. **
Here is what we are making today! A magnet board with supplies from Dollar Tree. (You’ll have to find your own little one to write your birthday message though. My guy was tuckered out after all this.)
- 12 x 12 metal sign from Dollar Tree (or similar)
- Scrapbook paper of your choice. One for the background and one for the magnets
- Memo Magnets – also from Dollar Tree. You can use any sort of magnets you want though.
- Mod Podge – I’m partial to Matte
- corner rounder
- Clear Spray Finish
- 3M command strips or some way to hang up your magnet board
Step 1: Take your paper and trim it down. The original metal piece fit with my color scheme so I trimmed to have an 1/8″ border all around the edges. Round your corners, a punch makes this SO easy.
Step 2: Mod Podge your paper down. I didn’t take a picture because decoupaging large pieces of paper at once scares me. Here is what I have learned after making the same mistake a million times. Put the Podge on the paper, not on whatever you are gluing it to. TIP: If you can be neat about your Mod Podging you won’t have to apply a coat over the top, unless you want to.
Step 3: While your magnet board is drying, prepare your magnets. I cut 1.5″ circles of a coordinating scrapbook paper. Next, Mod-Podge them on. The magnets aren’t flat so it can be a little tricky. It’s totally doable if you just keep pushing the edges of the paper down. I ended up holding each paper down for about a minute before it stayed flat on its own.
Step 4: Spray your board and magnets with a clear sealer, once the Mod Podge is completely dry.
Step 5: To hang, I used some small 3M command strips. Or rather, since this was a birthday gift I put them on the back and sent along instructions for how Teacher Amanda could hang it up in her house.
I have some kitchen/cooking themed paper and I REALLY want to make one so I can put my recipes on it. Either the recipe I am making that night, or perhaps the recipes for the week. Can’t wait!

All Thingz Related let me in on the fact that Dollar Tree had these metal signs. Go see what they did with theirs. Amazing!
Denise at Wallflower Grown Wild made awesome picture magnets with her memo magnets. Otherwise I might have known to look for those at the store. Go check her out!
