Here is where I used my fabric flowers from the Tutorial.
Back in May I saw this awesome tutorial on Living with Punks for a Messenger bag out of Pillow Covers from Target. I ran right out to my local Target and bought three of the Covers on clearance. Then I proceeded to let them sit on the shelf for about six weeks. 🙂
I finally made the time to do some sewing for me and made my messenger bag. I love it!!
The strap is very long. I like how you can wear it across your body or tie it on a knot to just do one shoulder. I would possibly shorten the strap to wear it across the body, I can’t make up my mind if it is too long, or just perfect. If you make one, I would pin on the strap and try it out before you sew it on.
I had some trouble sewing the lining in. I couldn’t get the zipper from the lining to tuck up very easily or something. I understood the directions, but my execution was lacking a bit. I did get it, but it took me two tries. Other than breaking a sewing machine needle because it hit the zipper on the first try, everything went really well and it was very easy. The tutorial was really clear and easy to follow, which I love!
I made one change, instead of adding a pocket inside the purse, I decided to use the leftover fabric for the flowers. I think they make a perfect embellishment for the outside.
Once again, here is the tutorial for making the Messenger Bag. You need to go check it out. I LOVE the orange that she used on hers. She actually made a few variations too. They are all great. Messenger Bag Tutorial from Living with Punks
