I have been meaning to talk about the Chalkboard Name tags I made for the Tour de Thrift. I got an email from a reader asking about them. Thanks for the little push I needed to get on the ball!
These were another project using the laser engraver (follow the link for more on the laser). One of the main non-crafty uses for my laser is making name tags, door signs, and the like. There is a sheet plastic called Rowmark which has one color on the top and when you engrave on it there is another color underneath. They have all sorts of different color combinations.
I wanted to put a twist on a traditional name tag by adding the chalkboard element. I used the Krylon Chalkboard Spray paint to cover the plastic sheet. After waiting the 24 hours dry time and conditioning the chalkboard with chalk, I engraved on the flowers and cut out of the shape of the name tag. This particular Rowmark plastic I used was Black on top with White underneath. That is why the flowers showed up white when I engraved on the plastic.
They were a big hit with everyone! I loved the Chalk markers that I was able to find too. The Bistro markers came from Hobby Lobby. Technically if you use the markers you wouldn’t really need the chalk paint. I knew that most of the ladies probably wouldn’t have the markers though, so I wanted everyone to be able to re-use them.

I loved those name tags. I have used mine for work instead of my more traditional work name tag. These were fun!

Those chalk markers are exactly what I’m looking for! I see a trip to Hobby Lobby in the near future. Thanks!

I bought some chalk board markers and I”m not having much luck. The tip is rectangular instead of rounded so its makes it hard to get nice lettering. Also I”m not able to get a steady flow of enough ink so my writing is very light. I need to check if mine are the same brand.
