Both my parents and in-laws live close by so we are use to doing two dinners. Usually they are on different days to accommodate family members that drive down.
I have somehow made it to 29 years old without ever having to cook a turkey. That will all change this year! I am cooking up a 24 lb bird for my in-laws. I’m a bit terrified nervous. Thankfully, I have my Mom to ask lots of questions. I also have her awesome gravy recipe, that is another post though.
On to the point! For my side of the family, I was assigned a relish platter. I had also amazingly gone 29 years without ever hearing that term. Apparently I am the only one, because anyone I ask can tell me right away what it is. Like the cashier saw the platter I was buying at the grocery store and said “that would be great as a relish tray!”
Last Wednesday this Bread Cornucopia by Amy over at The Idea Room showed up in my Reader. Be still my heart, I fell in love! So this is going to be the center of my relish tray. I will have vegetables and whatnot spread around and some dip too.
My favorite part is that I can use the Pantry Secrets bread recipe to make it. If you haven’t heard of Pantry Secrets before, it is bread you can make from start to finish in one hour. My previous attempts at homemade bread had been a flop up until Pantry Secrets came along. Here is their website: PantrySecrets.net. If you live the Phoenix Metro area, I know a great instructor, so I can hook you up with her if you are interested in taking the class.
Here is mine that I just pulled from the oven. I am so excited it turned out! I will take some pictures of the final tray on Thursday.
One last thing, if you want to make one of these but don’t have a lot of time. I saw another one on the internet that used crescent rolls. So go for it! Happy Thanksgiving!
