Are you all ready for Easter? I think I am getting really close. Last Saturday I put together a fun little Easter Egg hunt in my neighborhood and I am really excited to share with you some of the party details this week.
First up is a twist on Rice Krispies treats. I made some fun little Birds Nest Treats with Sun Chips Apple Cinnamon flavored Morning Mix-ups.
If you haven’t seen them before, this is what the Morning Mix-ups look like. I bought some for the kids to try out and when I was thinking of what might make a good bird’s nest, these came to mind. The color and texture is perfect for a “stick” looking nest.
Before we get to the recipe, I will tell you about the little birds that I found. Winco grocery store has a really awesome bulk section with a lot of holiday candy choices. I found the birds in a mix of candy that says Easter Cream Chicks/Bunny. I stood at that bin for quite awhile using the little candy shovel to only pick out the birds. Ha, ha, ha.
Okay, now it’s time to make some bird nest treats.
Apple Cinnamon Bird Nest Treats
Yield: 36 treats
Ingredients:
6 cups Sun Morning Mix-ups, with the “bagel buttons” removed
1 10.5 oz mini marshmallows
3 Tbsp butter or margarine
36 candy birds
36 jelly bean eggs
White almond bark (optional)
Directions:
1. In large saucepan melt butter over low heat. Add marshmallows and stir until completely melted. Remove from heat.
2. Lightly crunch the Sun Morning Mix-ups. You just want the Sun pieces to be a little smaller. Add the 6 cups of Sun Morning Mix-ups to the marshmallow mixture. Stir until well coated.
3.With buttered hands, make small nest shapes while the mixture is still warm. Add the candy bird and jelly bean. Set on a greased cookie sheet to set. NOTE: If your mixture isn’t sticky enough for the candies, stick the bird and jelly bean on the best with a small amount of melted almond bark.
As you can see the birds come in all kinds of fun colors.
These were some of my favorite treats at the party and I love how quick and easy they were!
I hope you get a chance to make some too.

Looks tasty! I’ve never heard of Sun Morning Mix-ups, but they look good, so I’ll have to give them a try.

Very cute! I’m looking forward to trying this. I’ve never seen Sun Morning Mix-ups in our grocery store, but I’m sure Golden Grahams will work just as well. Stopping by from Sugar Bee 🙂
