A few weeks ago, I had the pleasure of attending a baby shower and birthday party for my friend Jacqui of Jacquilyn Avery Photography. I love getting invited to Jacqui’s events because you know you’re going to be in for an amazing and beautiful time. This was no exception. Jacqui was having a little girl so the shower was floral themed. From the fresh flower crowns to the beautiful naked cake with fresh flowers, the shower was just amazing. I’ve thrown enough parties to know how much work it takes to put together an event like this. Jacqui and her best friend Claire, did such a beautiful job. Here’s the mama to be/birthday girl with Claire.
Right when guests entered they were created by this beautiful display of fresh flowers. There were also all the supplies you needed to make fresh flower crowns.
I don’t do flower arranging at all and I was pretty sure it would be a hot mess. Turns out, it was easy and the crown turned out beautiful. In fact, everyone’s crown was beautiful. My daughter who is usually all about the big and blingy choose small buds and lots of babies breath. She wore her crown the entire day and I even wore it for a bit. We stored it in the refrigerator overnight and it was still in good shape the next day!
Each table was set with fresh Gerber daisies centerpieces. Glass bottles and sugar cookies with our name on it acting as place cards. I loved the personal touch! Everything was so feminine and perfect to shower a baby and mama.
The event was brunch, so of course there was lots of delicious breakfast foods and fruit. My favorite were the naked cakes. I’ve heard of the trend of leaving a cake un-frosted but I had never seen one in person. The naked cake looked great and I think it really brought focus to the flowers. I think naked cakes are deceptively simple looking. Frosting can cover up a whole lot of baking problems, so you really need to be able to bake a beautiful and delicious cake to pull off a naked cake. You also have to be able to get the frosting to stay where you want it and not make a big mess.
Here’s a shot of just one of the cakes. I just love how beautiful the fresh flowers look.
There was one final touch that I just loved. To say thank you and as a party favor, guests could make their own flower arrangement in a mason jar. Like I said, I have zero experience with flower arranging, but I thought our little mason jar turned out great. It really helps when you have such beautiful flowers to start out with!
If you couldn’t tell from such a picture heavy post, everything about this baby shower was so picturesque. Here’s one last shot of Jacqui and Claire in their flower crowns. See, they all turned out beautiful, no matter what kind of flowers were used.
The stork is done delivering babies to our house but if I get a chance to throw a shower, I would love to recreate this. Everyone had such a great time at the shower!
