Making breakfast is hard on school days. I am not a morning person, therefore quick, easy, and filling are my top breakfast priorities. I love that both of my kids devour a bowl of Quaker® Instant Oats in the mornings. It fills them up so they have the energy they need until lunchtime and it’s so quick to make in the microwave. Quaker® Instant Oats Original flavor is the perfect canvas to add some of your own flair. In fact, Quaker® is having a national Bring Your Best Bowl recipe contest. You can enter to win $250,000 and the top recipe entries will be created and sold in stores for a limited time in Fall 2016. Can you imagine having your own oatmeal flavor sold in stores? I would love it!
My kids love cinnamon and a little brown sugar in their oatmeal, so I thought it would be fun to create some cinnamon roll oatmeal. The cinnamon swirl gives familiar flavors a really fun presentation. I know cinnamon roll purists say no nuts, but I love them! Add them or leave them off, the choice it up to you!
- 2 packets Quaker® Instant Oats Original flavor
- 1 Tablespoon butter or margarine
- 3 Tablespoon light brown sugar, packed
- ½ tsp cinnamon
- finely chopped pecans, optional
- On the stove top or in the microwave, melt the margarine. Stir in the brown sugar and cinnamon. It will form a thick mixture. Set aside to cool slightly while you make the oatmeal.
- Make the two packets of Quaker® Instant Oats Original flavor according to the package instructions. Any of the methods on the package will work. Make each packet in it's own bowl.
- Place the cinnamon sugar mixture in a plastic bag and snip the corner. Pipe a swirl design on the top of the oatmeal. Sprinkle with finely chopped pecans if desired.
- Serve immediately.
To round out breakfast, you can serve your Quaker® Instant Oats with some fruit. My kids got a real kick out of this “funny face” breakfast. Banana smiles are pretty much the best, right? Plus the cinnamon swirl makes Mr. Oatmeal here look extra silly.
To start out my culinary creation, I stopped by my neighborhood Fry’s Food. They had everything I needed for my cinnamon roll oatmeal. You can find the Quaker® Oats right under the hot cereal sign on the cereal aisle. From there, just take a stroll around the store and I’m sure you will find tons of recipe inspiration to create an amazing bowl of oatmeal.
Now it’s your turn to get creative with Quaker® Oats! The Bring Your Best Bowl contest runs from now until March 12, 2016. The big winner will be announced in November 2016. You can head to the Bring Your Best Bowl site to enter and get all the information you need. Recipes should have between 2-5 ingredients, so keep that in mind when you are creating your recipes! I can’t wait to see what kind of recipes you create. I could use with some more breakfast inspiration!
