The Michael’s Blogger Challenge theme for this month is back to school. I’m so excited to share my lollipop holders with you.  I can’t resist a pun, so they say, “Lolly gee! I’m so excited to be in your class this year! ”  I like to give a little something to the teachers at the beginning of the year, to really get things off on the right start.

Michael’s had the perfect paper for this project! My kids were able to write their name on the lined paper section. My daughter’s kindergarten teacher especially liked that part! I actually found all my supplies at Michael’s, except for the lollipops. Before you head out to do your shopping, make sure you have the Michael’s app. You can get the latest deals and coupons right on your phone.  Let’s get started on making them. 

Supplies:

• Recollections Back to School paper
• Polka dot paper (optional – for scalloped circle)
• Red Card stock
• Twist Ties
• Lollipops
• Lollipop Holder Template PDF, SVG, STUDIO
• Scallop Circle Template PDF, STUDIO

Directions:

1. Cut out a lollipop holder template and cut out of your patterned paper. If you are using the Back to School paper, move the template around until you the sections of paper that you like the best. The dotted lines in the template are score lines. Score the paper on the lines,  so it will easily assemble for you. Now is also the time for your kids to write their name on the lollipop holder. 
   
2. Print and cut out the “Lolly gee! I’m so excited to be in your class this year” circle on card stock.  I used the Print and Cut option on my Silhouette Cameo. 
3. Fold each end of the lollipop holder up on the scored lines. 
4. Place your lollipop, candy side down, in the lollipop holder and secure with the twist tie. If you are using the PDF version of the template, punch holes for the twist tie to go through. 
   
5. Embellish the outside of the lollipop holder however you want. To attach the scalloped circles, I used Elmer’s glue dots.  For some of the holders, I used bows instead of the scalloped circles. For a bow, slide the twist tie through the back side of the ribbon. It saves you from trying to force ribbon through the holes.
   

This really is a simple project. I feel like it takes about five times as long to explain it as it does to make it. In the template file, I have a few options for the circle. You can do the whole scallop in one color. You can also print the words in one color and make the scallop circle with a patterned paper. You can see what I mean below. 

The lollipop holders with the bows are perfect to hand out to support staff at the school. We gave one to the school nurse and my son ended up having a student teacher at Meet the Teacher night. I was happy I had a little treat to give her too!
