No, you don’t have deja vu! I made another Dry Erase Board from a treasure in the Ikea As-Is section. However this one is so easy you will fall over. The most time consuming step was choosing the paper I wanted. Speaking of paper, the background is interchangeable. Yahoo!
Let’s get started with the Billy Byom glass door. Perfect size for jotting down phone messages or quick little notes.
Here’s my favorite part.
What you need:
- Glass Cabinet Door
- Paper for a background
- Velcro – strips or circles. I used both.
The only flaw with this door was that it had a hole for a knob. After briefly considering adding a knob, or filling it and refinishing the whole thing, I went the easy route. Cover it up!
Step 1: Cut and apply a strip of velcro the width of your wooden frame. You could also use the velcro circles here.
Step 2: Apply Velcro circles to your Dry Erase Markers. Do keep in mind that if you put the scratchy side on the door, you need the fuzzy side on the markers or vice versa. {Those are some technical terms, no?}
Step 3 & 4: Measure the size of the glass and add 1/4″ to each side. The glass itself measured 8.75″ so I cut my paper to 9″. The other dimension was 11″, so I cut to 11.25.” Slide the paper into the back of the door. The paper should be big enough to slide in next to the glass and not fall out. You could secure the paper with a piece of scotch tape, but I didn’t need to.
Step 5: Marvel at what you’ve created. 😉
I LOVE that the paper is so easily interchanged. You could change it by season, or really just your mood. I also thought about adding the word “Messages” in vinyl, but I didn’t want to pigeon-hole it into any one category just yet. That plain frame would be really lovely with some embellishments too. The skies the limit!

I live about 45 minutes away from IKEA, but I can’t wait to go next time. That is a tremendous idea to give away at Christmas time! You are VERY crafty… be looking out for a featured award this week because I am in L-O-V-E LOVE with this project!

Looks great! I actually destroyed a whiteboard today (which was intended for a craft project- lesson learned, never listen to the hubby’s whiteboard cleaning tips), so this might be the perfect project to ease my pain!
