Okay, I wanted to show you all the fun different variations I have done with the Fabric flowers I made in the previous post. There will be a part 3 where I post what I did with my 3 from yesterday. (See, I’ve gone a bit flower crazy!)
For the Tour de Thrift we were so lucky to have some very generous sponsors donate certificates to their shops as Door prizes. I kept thinking that there had to be some way we could creatively hand them out. These planters are what I came up with. The fact that I had 8 planters lying around and I ended up needing 7, could only mean it was meant to be!
I made two flowers using the steps in my tutorial, then tied the pins to skewers using water balloons. Strange, but very effective. The winner could just untie the balloons and use their flower pins however they wanted. I made some “leaves” for the flowers by mod podging and painting clothes pins. The “leaves” held up the certificate in between the two flowers.
Here we go. . .
For the center of the denim flowers, I cut a circle the same size as the petals, sewed a gathering stitch all the way around the circle and then stuffed with felt scraps. It made a nice little ‘pillow’ for the center.
This last one was a flower pin I made to go on the Swag bags. We needed a few additional flowers last minute, so I went with this style. For the center of this flower I used a fabric covered button.
These flowers is great for using up scraps. I made two purses like this a year ago and have been holding on to the few scraps for something special. I love how the material looked as a flower.
I seriously LOVE these flowers. I am taking my kids to the Summer Movie deal at the movie theater and I have a hard time not getting bored. I took lots of cut and pressed circles and sewed the petals for 7 flowers during a movie. I could have moved a bit faster if it weren’t for the darkened theater and all. So next time you need something to keep your hands busy, think about making these!
