Here’s little Ms. Foxy in her new sun dress.
I went to Target yesterday with the express intent of finding a skirt to refashion into a dress for Morgan.
Really I was hoping beyond hope that I could find the skirt that Autie(mAde by Autie) used to make this amazing dress.(Click the picture to go to the post)
No such luck, but I did find this cutie for $7.50.
I didn’t really plan on doing a tutorial for this, because I’m still a novice when it comes to refashioning, but I can tell you generally what I did.
1. Put the skirt on Morgan where I wanted it and mark how much I had to take it in.
2. Remove 1 pocket. (The other one was cut off with the extra) The pockets were super cute, but they wouldn’t work proportionally on my 2 year old.
3. I should have: sewn a new seam where I wanted the skirt taken in and then trimmed off the extra material.
I DID: cut off the extra material, watch my elastic get lost in the waistband, fish out elastic, re insert elastic, and THEN sew a new seam. (I wasn’t kidding about that novice thing!)
4. Use the left over material to create straps. (I would be happy to describe the straps in detail, if anyone is interested.) Sew fabric “tubes”, insert elastic, sew to dress. Bam! You’re done.
You end up with a cute little shirred sundress.
Maybe I’ll be able to get a few better pictures later. The fact that she is smiling is beyond amazing. We are at that run and hide from the camera stage. She must really love her dress. 🙂
What are you refashioning? I’d love to see it.

Okay. This doesn’t seem so hard. I have put it off long enough. Thanks for sharing this.
