I have professed my love for the Ikea As-Is section many times. In fact I try to avoid going there, because it is impossible not to spend money. The deals are too good to pass up. Today I went because I needed a shadow-box for an upcoming project and those little buggers are expensive. It’s ridiculous if you ask me. I was lucky enough to score myself two small shadow boxes for $1.99 each. I think the regular price is $4.99.
That is not the purpose of this post though, so I will get to the loud sofa picture at the top of this post. I am throwing a joint birthday party for my kids right after the new year. I was thinking a circus/carnival theme would be fun and gender neutral. Today at IKEA I found that Sofa Cover, regular price $139.00 for $5. Five smackeroos, people! Not my choice for a couch, but look at all that material. How perfect for my circus party!
Now I need some suggestions for how to best utilize it. I bought two, because I just couldn’t pass up the price. Depending on what I try to make, it could require some piecing. I haven’t opened it up yet to see what size the biggest piece of solid material is.
What would you make? Table runners, and perhaps a photo backdrop have crossed my mind. Anything else? I would also love to hear any ideas you have in general for a circus party.
I will share one one mishap I had in Ikea today. I knocked a glass shelf on the ground today and shattered it into a million little pieces. Thankfully no one got cut, and at least I was in the As-Is section. The lady that got to clean it up was super nice about it, but I still felt like a big dummy.
One more spoil from our As-Is trip. An awesome flower beanie for $0.99. I totally bought it for her. I think it makes her look like a munchkin for Wizard of Oz or something!

Perhaps make something like this for your photo area or for the kids to sit under while opening presents…

I’ve seen some custom made canopy types of things on television before, but I’ve never made one. Not sure how difficult it might be.

how about a circus tent? could be used for the photo “booth” area and/or cake cutting/eating area.
