Today I’m sharing a great Halloween craft tutorial that is perfect for kids. Well really it’s great for anyone, but this is a very appropriate craft for smaller children. These beaded pipe cleaner spiders have a very small supply list, so there is a good chance you have almost everything you need already.
Today I thought it would be fun to try out a picture tutorial. I’ve got all the steps and instructions in one nice big photo collage.
Don’t worry though, I’ll write it all out too. You can refer to the back up to the photos if you need a visual of each step.
Beaded Pipe Cleaner Spiders
Supplies:
- 2 pipe cleaners
- 2″ of pipe cleaner in a coordinating color for pincers (optional)
- 72 Mini pony beads
- Small googly eyes
Instructions:
- Cut the two pipe cleaners in half. You will now have 4 black pieces and one 2″ piece.
- Line the pipe cleaners up and fold them in half. Place the 2″ piece of pipe cleaner around the center of the folder pipe cleaners. You can also omit the 2″ of pipe cleaner and move to step 3.
- Twist the folded end of the pipe cleaners very tightly to form the spider body. Spread out all 8 of the pipe cleaner ends to get the spider legs.
- Place one bead(orange) on each pipe cleaner and slide it all the way up to the body. Bend the pipe cleaner straight up, to form the first joint.
- Add 3 more beads(black) on each spider leg. Then bend the remaining pipe cleaner straight down to form another joint.
- You could be done with beads at this point, but I like to have the whole leg covered in beads. Add five more beads to each leg(orange/black/orange/black/orange) and bend the very end of the pipe cleaner out. It gives the spider some feet and helps keep the beads secure.
- Glue on googly eyes to complete your spider. This is the only step that should be completed by an adult.
Aren’t they so fun. I like how they are cute and not scary. I’m not a big fan of real live creepy crawlies, but I love these little guys. They are also very easy to customize. My daughter made several in every color of the rainbow, and she loves them.
Please let me know if you make some spiders, I’d love to see what you come up with.
