- Eat a filling and healthy breakfast before entering the park. You’ll want some protein to help keep you full. An egg white omelet would be an excellent choice. Egg whites are high in protein, low in calories, fat, and have no cholesterol.
- Stay hydrated! Make sure you drink plenty of water. Our bodies can give us the “I’m hungry signal” when we’re really just needing some water.
- Bring a protein or meal replacement bar with you. You are more likely to stick to your meal plan, when you aren’t starving. A lot of those bars can be full of sugar, so be mindful of that when you are shopping. If you can’t bring a snack, places like Fairfax Market and Fillmore’s Taste-In has fresh fruit, veggies, hummus, and more.
- When you do indulge, share with a friend. You’re at Disneyland, so of course you want to splurge a little bit. To cut down on the calorie intake, take that churro and share it with a friend or two.
- Plan ahead! Make a food plan for your trip and stick to it the best you can. The Disneyland website has a pretty comprehensive list of restaurants, including their menus. The list includes the restaurants in Downtown Disney and even some of the park hotels. Some restaurants have better options for healthy choices than others, so do some research and pick restaurants that have a healthier option.
- Watch portion sizes. When you eat at a park restaurant, be aware of the portion size. Similar to #4, share your meal with a friend.
- Use a food tracking app such as MyFitnessPal. That’s a great way to make sure you are aware of how many calories you are consuming.
- Let others in your group that you are making an effort to make healthy choices. Hopefully, they will help and encourage you on your way.
- Don’t eat inside the park. Take advantage of the picnic area just outside the gates. If you want to save yourself some money and watch what you eat, pack your own meals and eat outside the gate. That will give you the ultimate control and you will have more money for souvenirs.
- Don’t get discouraged. If you over-indulge one day, recommit yourself to doing better the next day. One bad day doesn’t mean you should throw in the towel and give up.
