Appetizer and Super Bowl recipe week is continuing. Knish (make sure you pronounce the K) is an Eastern European snack that consists of a filling covered in dough and then baked, grilled, or fried. That’s a pretty broad definition for sure. Today I’m sharing some Knish bites that are filled with onion-y ground beef and cheese. For the dough, we’ll be using Pillsbury crescent creations seamless dough so this a simple recipe to put together. I’m calling them knish bites because I kept my knish small and you can eat them in just one bite.
Several years back I was a part of a recipe exchange group. We would get together once a month and bring a recipe to share. We would also bring enough copies of the recipe so everyone could bring one home. I got to try a lot of really great new recipes that way. The group ended but thankfully I still have the recipes and today’s knish recipe came from the recipe exchange. The tortilla soup recipe I use came from the same lovely lady, so you know she’s a great cook.
Knish Bites
Yield: 64 Knish bites
Ingredients:
- Mix together the uncooked ground beef, dry soup mix, and shredded cheese. Form the mixture into approximately 1/3 – 1/2 inch balls.
- Roll out one tube of the seamless dough. Cut the dough into 32 squares. Place a meatball on each dough square. Fold each corner up to create a “package.”
- Repeat step 2 with the second tube of seamless dough.
- Place on cookie sheet and bake at 375 degrees for 10-13 minutes or until the knish is a nice golden brown and the filling has reached a temperature of 160 degrees F.
These appetizers are really delicious. My family isn’t a huge fan of onions but they gobbled these down. The soup mix gives the meat a really great flavor. I love serving these at parties and really any gathering with a crowd. They would make a great addition to your Super Bowl Sunday spread.
I hope you enjoy!
