I’ll try to keep it vague but depending on how sensitive you are about spoilers, you might want to skip it. I think part of the reason I loved it so much is because Paul Rudd is the lead. I really love him as an actor. Here’s the official synopsis of the movie, if you aren’t familiar with it.
The next evolution of the Marvel Cinematic Universe brings a founding member of The Avengers to the big screen for the first time with Marvel Studios’ “Ant-Man.” Armed with the astonishing ability to shrink in scale but increase in strength, master thief Scott Lang must embrace his inner hero and help his mentor, Dr. Hank Pym, protect the secret behind his spectacular Ant-Man suit from a new generation of towering threats. Against seemingly insurmountable obstacles, Pym and Lang must plan and pull off a heist that will save the world.
We are pretty strict with the media that we allow our kids to see. At 9 and 7 they have not seen any of the Marvel movies solely because PG-13 is an automatic no in our house for the kids. Ant-Man is rated PG-13 but I found it to be the most kid friendly of the bunch. There were no f-words, which seems like almost every PG-13 movie has at least one. I do seem to recall the sh- word a few times. I didn’t see any overtly sexual scenes and no innuendos. There were guns, and of course people shooting the guns. One person was shot, but it didn’t show the actual bullet enter, just the blood on their shirt after the fact. No pools of blood, just a stain on the shirt. Both a lamb and a human meet an unfortunate fate and end up as ‘goo.’ Depending on the sensitivity of your child, that could be upsetting.
I will probably wait until the movie comes out on DVD but I really want my kids to see this one. There was some cool information about ants and it was really neat to see Ant-Man shrink down and interact with the ants. I think my kids would really enjoy it. I know that my husband and I really enjoyed it. I would definitely recommend it for your next movie.
