I only have one regret when it comes to Super Cute Crispy Treats. Towards the end of the process when everything was rush, rush, rush, my editor asked if I wanted to include any acknowledgements. She said we were tight on space so it was okay if we didn’t. I didn’t really know what went in acknowledgements, and I was stressed out. With space and time being an issue, I said skip it.
Then a few weeks later I pulled out some of the cookbooks off my shelves and read their acknowledgements. I felt horrible. So many helped with this book, and acknowledgements was the place to, well, acknowledge that and say thank you. What a major punch to the gut, and it left me feeling rather ungrateful. Believe me, I know how much work and effort went into this book by lots of people besides myself.
The time is long past to be able to include it in the book, but I’m going to try and do the next best thing and include them here.
I want to say the biggest and greatest thank you to my editor Jeannine. This book was her brainchild. She saw there was an opening for a rice crispy book and I happened to be in the right place, right time for us to work together and make this book happen. I knew nothing about book publishing when this whole process started and she was so patient and helpful.
I actually had two editors during this process. Book writing and publishing takes a long time, so people have babies, go on vacation, get promotions, and all that life stuff. I was also able to work with Hallie for a while and I so appreciate her ability to dive into the middle of a project, sort out what was going on, and continue to help and support me.
Everybody at Race Point and Quarto Publishing was just amazing. Depending on where you are at in the process, you meet different people. My other favorite people are the marketing team. Katie and Becky have been working with me since I was writing the book. Turns out writing a book, might be the easy part. Selling a book is challenging too. Both Katie, Becky, and now Jessie have been so wonderful to work with. They take all my crazy ideas and suggestions and help me run with them. They are the experts but they always listen to my ideas and if it’s a good one, we do it. It feels great knowing that there are people that care about this book as much as I do.
There were several proofreaders that I never got to meet who read, and reread the book to make sure everything was clear and no inconsistencies. I may not have loved getting a list of questions that needed to be answered but I appreciate their commitment to making the best book possible. I wrote the book, so of course I knew what I meant. It was invaluable having fresh eyes reading the book.
I also owe huge thanks to the photographer, Rick Schwab, and the entire food styling and art team. Geographically speaking it just wasn’t feasible for me to be a part of the process for the book photographs. Although I do have a few of my own images in the book. For the majority, I took photos of the treats I made for them to reference and they recreated everything and did an amazing job! I am so thankful that there was a team of 5 people that worked really hard to make Super Cute Crispy Treats look it’s best. I am so happy with how the treats look in the book. You eat with your eyes first and they did a phenomenal job. So thank you to Janine Kalesis, Lauren LaPenna, Rick Schwab, Chantal Lambeth, and Heidi North.
That’s all the nuts and bolts of the publishing process. I was blessed to work with each and every one of them. However none of that would have been possible without a great support system at home. My husband, Ryan is a rockstar. He put up with crazy hours, very little home cooked food, and lots of, “honey take the kids somewhere fun, I need the house to myself.” He of course was the first taste tester and always gave his honest opinion.
I also couldn’t have done this without my Mom. She helped out with the kids a TON and even would run to the grocery store if I was running low on ingredients. Turns out you need a LOT of Rice Crispy cereal and marshmallows to write 100 recipes. My mom is also great with suggestions and problem solving suggestions.
My father passed away in the middle of the writing process. I had just recently turned in the first half of the book and was supposed to be starting the second half when he passed away suddenly. I was so glad that he was able to see as many finished recipes as he did and it breaks my heart that he won’t be able to see the finished product. He was so proud of me and I know he would be so proud to see how it turned out. The book is dedicated to him.
Alright this is getting long, but there are so many people to thank. My sister Cedar, and best friend Edna, are the best cheerleaders a person could ask for. They have such an enthusiasm and they have been some of my very biggest supporters. If life is going great, you want to tell them because they will be so happy for you. If things are going badly, you want to tell them because they are great at helping you pick up the pieces.
I am so grateful to the great online community I have. Friends, other bloggers, and usually bloggers that are also friends have been so supportive. It makes my heart happy every time I would get a like, retweet, or heart on something book related. My heart just about exploded a few times when someone would come up to me and tell me how excited they were for me and how excited they are to see the book. It just really means a lot, probably more than they knew.
Lastly, I just really want to thank everyone that reads Cute as a Fox. This book definitely would not have happened without the platform that I have built here. I started blogging because I had an idea and I wanted to share it with the world. That’s still my motivation. I love coming up with creative crafts, and recipes and sharing it with you all. My favorite is hearing that someone has learned something new or made a yummy recipe. I can’t wait to hear about people making the recipes in Super Cute Crispy Treats. I really hope you love them as much as I do.
