It’s time for another school year to start. One of my most popular posts is the Minecraft backpack and lunch set I made a few years ago. Unfortunately that backpack doesn’t seem to be available anymore. This year when we went back to school shopping, we found some really great backpacks and lunchboxes that would be great to convert to Minecraft. In particular, I saw this white and gray checked lunchbox and it seemed like it would be a great to turn into a Ghast. For those unfamiliar with Minecraft, a ghast is a ghost like mob(enemy) that can be found in the Nether and shoots fire balls.
I wanted to keep it super simple for this DIY. The project is easy and doesn’t require any special tools or products other than a printer, scissors, and some permanent markers. Don’t want to make it youself? You can always shop for some Minecraft lunch boxes on Amazon. It’s a little hit and miss whether they have any though.
Minecraft Ghast Lunchbox
Supplies:
- Checkered Lunch box
- Silver Permanent Marker
- Black Permanent Marker
- Ghast Face Print Out
Instructions:
- Save and print out the Ghast Face.
- Using scissors or a utility knife cut out the boxes which make up the Ghast face. Discard the cut out pieces.
- You should now have a 7×7″ square with a lot of square holes cut in it. Hold that paper against the lunch box and trace the facial features with a permanent marker. The eyes and mouth are black, everything else is silver.
- Trace the outline first and then come back later to fill in the colors. TIP: The permanent marker spreads more on white than the gray. I did get a little bit of color bleeding. You can’t really see it unless you really start examining the bag closely.
- Allow the marker to dry completely. Heat set the design by briefly ironing the Ghast face with a hot and dry iron. Take care not to melt the zipper or lunchbox lining. Just a light pressing should do just fine as a precaution.
We’ve been using the lunchbox every day for a week and everything is holding up great so far!
I mentioned that I found some backpacks that would make for some great Minecraft DIYs. They were both available at Target in August 2015. This first one matches the lunch box of course. We already had a lunch box so we didn’t go with this one.
I really loved this small check pattern. This would be perfect for that Creeper face backpack that I did.
Just in case you missed it before, here is the Creeper backpack and lunch set I did a few years ago.
Now in case you can’t find these same backpacks and lunch boxes, you can skip the DIY and do some online shopping. I found some really fun Minecraft backpack options on Amazon too!
Please note: I do not sell these products. I made them for my personal use. I get a lot of requests asking to buy them and as much as I would love to help you out, I just can’t.
