With the new Beauty and the Beast coming out, I just had to make some fun shirts to wear to the movie. I posted a review of the film, so hop on over to that post so you know what to expect.
My current craft obsession has been t-shirt making so I decided to make shirts for my daughter and me to wear to the theater. I’ve been exercising a lot recently so I wanted to do a play on Beast Mode. For my daughter, we went a little more classic. I’ll tell you exactly how her shirt came about in a second.
At our last blogger craft night sponsored by Expressions Vinyl, I saw the coolest looking iridescent heat transfer vinyl. It is technically called Holographic Vinyl and the color is Pearl. To me, it looks more iridescent than holographic so I’ll probably alternate between calling it iridescent and holographic pearl. I had never seen anything like it before. I grabbed some of it to experiment with. I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do with it, but I knew I had to try it out. Then, when I was brainstorming Beauty and the Beast shirt ideas, it came to me. The iridescent vinyl would make really great “glass” for the iconic enchanted rose.
I really love how it came out! The iridescent vinyl looks gorgeous in the light. I felt like it gave me the perfect “glass” effect that I was going for. I paired the holographic pearl with red glitter flake and metallic copper. Now in the perfect world, the stem would have been green but alas I was a last minute crafter and didn’t have any green! I really like it with the copper but green metallic would be gorgeous. I even did a little photoshopping so you could get an idea of the design with a green stem.
My original plan was to layer the iridescent vinyl on top of the rose. However, once I got everything cut, it just didn’t look like you would be able to see the rose under the bell jar. It’s just not quite translucent enough. So the bell jar is the bottom layer, with the rose on top.
